Well, every family has their traditions and every family has their quirky little things they do for the holidays. Some families over obsess about the beauty of a tree, others decorate as if Christmas was never coming back, some go caroling, others make hot chocolate and cookies. The Brighton family touched on all of things and more, but throughout my childhood, I never met a family that didn't have one special holiday movie picked out that they watched each year. The film never got old, never went out of style, and probably continues to played by families every holiday season.
Our pick was Irving Berlins, White Christmas. My generation seemed to go for A Christmas Story, but if you know my mother at all, that movie never had a chance over White Christmas.
In celebration of my own families tradition, and the season itself, I have dug up a few little clips that should bring some smiles, a few funny giggles, and (I'm guessing) at least a couple of rolled eyes (it' got dancing in it and it's old). The first of these clips is dedicated to my sister. I'm fairly convinced that we have spent hours of our lives fighting over which one of the female leads we were (although you won't see either of them in this clip). I wish I had video of the two of us "performing" this little number when we were kids, but I have no doubt if seen, we would never live it down. Ahhhh, the relief of having memories to ourselves. For those of you who haven't had the privilege, rent this film sometime during the season..... without a doubt, it's a Christmas classic!
You have allowed this mom to revel in some wonderful memories as I read this piece and cried a few tears! Thank you, Beth! I still say White Christmas is way better than any others, hands down!!!
ReplyDeleteI have already watched THE movie twice this month. Tim just rolls his eyes and smiles. He knows he'll never understand. : )
