For those of you outside the area, all of California has been hit with a severe storm. One that has surpassed all others in the last decade. I hope that some day we figure out how to harness the power that wind possesses. If we could use that as an energy resourcefully, our whole nation would greatly benefit.
Power is out over much of the state and the cold is beginning to sink into peoples bones. Shelters have been opened and PG&E is doing everything they can to try to assist those areas that are in need.
I have worked through the storm, and let me tell you, I have never worked longer or more hectic days. Thousands upon thousands of calls came in (and are still coming in) to Butte County from all over the area and beyond. Many family members outside the state have called requesting welfare checks on family members they had not heard from. Trees are in roadways, homes, on cars and in yards. Traffic lights are out and many businesses are still on generators.
The miracle of it all is that we have only had minimal injuries so far and the main complaints now are regarding power- which most can live without for a few days, although they are calling as though PG&E is not occupied with thousands of other calls. It astounds me how greedy and selfish people become just a short time after a major state wide crisis. We forget so quickly the privilege it is to live in the US and have electricity and power in the first place. What a humbling experience to be on the receiving end of peoples minuscule complaints. I am glad to see it all coming to a closure!
